What are dental implant restorations?

Dental implant restorations offer an alternative to uncomfortable dentures or dental bridges when it comes to replacing missing teeth. The restoration consists of a titanium post inserted into your jawbone to replicate a lost tooth root. Once this metal post fuses to your jawbone, it provides a base for a crown or implant retained dentures.

You care for dental implants just like you do your regular teeth. There’s no soaking, overnight removal, or dietary restrictions.

If you have a history of gum disease or poor bone volume, the dentist may recommend a bone graft before you receive your restorations. 

What is it like to get a dental implant restoration?

The placement of dental implant restorations requires several steps. At your first visit, Dr. Estefan surgically places the posts into your jawbone. She numbs the area, so you feel no pain during the visit. Expect to be slightly sore for a few days afterward.

Once the metal posts fuse to your jawbone, you return to the office. This may be a few months after your initial visit. Dr. Estefan takes digital images of your teeth that are sent to a lab to fabricate your restorations. 

When your crown is ready, you come back to the office for placement. Dr. Estefan places an abutment to the implant post and attaches the crown, sealing it into place. She’ll adjust your bite to ensure you feel comfortable.
